Established in 1992 by husband and wife, Gordon and Susan Tait, Tait began in a small factory in Melbourne, Australia. Gordon, a sheet metal craftsman, and Susan, a creative textile designer, noticed an absence for well-designed, well-made outdoor products – both reflective of Australia’s enviable outdoor lifestyle and built to withstand the harsh Australian elements. Collaborating with a legion of Australia’s most influential and prominent design talent, including, Adam Goodrum, Justin Hutchinson, Trent Jansen and Adam Cornish; Tait have produced a number of iconic collections, renowned for their originality, functional design and longevity.
Refined luxury, alluring forms and sensory detail define Trace, the new outdoor lounge collection by Adam Goodrum. Synonymous with the warmth of the Australian outdoor lifestyle, Trace is contemporary, original and considered, exemplifying both Tait and Goodrum’s design aesthetic. The multi-faceted series, incorporating modular lounge settings and accessories, has a unique character that allows a versatility across a range of applications. Trace’s seating and lounge options comprise the Trace Sofa, Trace Armchair and Trace Modular while in perfect accompaniment, the collection further incorporates the Trace Coffee Tables, Trace Drinks Trolley and the future Trace Planter. High performance and engineered to withstand harsh environmental conditions, Trace has been developed with expert craftsmanship, employing aluminium, stainless steel mesh, sustainable timbers and marbled porcelain materials. All the while, a focus on tactile forms and premium upholstery affirms its sumptuous quality.
Seam Dining Chair & Table
Through a simple series of cuts, folds and joins, Seam is materialised with elegant and precise form. The Seam collection was conceived with a design process not dissimilar to the way in which a piece of fabric is tailored into a form-fitting garment, a refined ‘seam’ along the spine of the chair making reference to a seam detail used in garment construction. The result being a unified series characterised by clean lines, fluid contours and refined design detail – contrasted by an inherently robust construction and hard-wearing tactility. Spanning commercial to residential applications including hospitality, breakout, alfresco and balconies, the Seam collection is designed for outdoor use, though is equally at home indoors.
Volley Chair & Table
Clean lines, netted mesh and a signature rope detail define the iconic Volley collection, designed by Adam Goodrum. Inspired by Australia’s sport-loving lifestyle, Volley epitomises scenes of backyard tennis with each piece equally happy sitting courtside as relaxing on a terrace. The collection incorporates a selection of Tait’s legacy products including the Volley Rocker, Lounger and Chair, in addition to the Volley Dining Table, Bar Stool and Bar Table. Featuring a circular frame, the Volley Chair, Lounger and Bar Stool together deliver a relaxed vibe. Manufactured with zinc-plated steel, Volley exhibits a visually light structure, with great strength and durability. As an all-Australian outdoor collection, Volley has the versatility and laidback charm to suit a range of home and commercial settings.
Tidal Chair & Tidal Table
The Tidal collection takes you to the sun-streaked summers of Australia in the 1970s, capturing the style and simplicity of days spent poolside and by the beach. Inspired by Australia’s surf culture, Trent Jansen applied science to his design by researching wave formations and linear diagrams. Manufactured with premium stainless steel wire, Tidal is designed with the highest level of craftsmanship. Its elegant construction allows it to seamlessly work into the vernacular of both outdoor and indoor environments; further engineered to reside at coastal or poolside settings. Incorporating the Tidal Chair and Lounger across its seating range, the recently launched Tidal Sunlounge extends the series further by a contemporary and sophisticated sun lounger. The Tidal Dining Table, Coffee Tables and the Side Table encompass Tidal’s table offering, for which Jansen studied the energy and pull of spiralling water spouts for its design.
ak & Jil
Jak Chair & Jil Table
As one of Tait’s greatest collections, Jak & Jil is a much-loved classic. Designed with Justin Hutchinson in 2009, this cohesive collection incorporates both dining and bar, in addition to occasional tables and a variety of seating options. One half of this epic partnership is fulfilled by Jak; the life and soul of the party, full of charm and vigour. Incorporating the Jak Dining Chair, Armchair and Bar Stool, all have a nimble form, fine-lined profile and stylish tilt of a backrest. Jil is elegant outside and in and takes form by the Jil Dining Table, Bar Table, Coffee Table and Side Table. Beyond striking with a zinc-plated steel wire structure, she is designed with consideration and can be paired with a choice of table tops. Incredibly versatile and all the while eye catching, both are an ideal choice for a range of settings from home, hospitality to commercial.
