Presenting at Denfair 2018
Innate is a collection of furniture with an inherent design language – spare, lean and elegant – embracing a sense of refinement through the use of Australian materials. Laser cut metal, Adelaide black granite, laminated and moulded saddle leathers and Australian hardwood timbers, producing and innate Australian sensuality and grounding in ‘place’.
The mood is enhanced by Jon and Fiona’s common and intuitive desire to allow the materials to remain in their natural and simplest states, constructed and formed with an honest and inventive design aesthetic.
This collection is the result of the collaboration between Adelaide-based furniture designer Jon Goulder, and Sydney design retailer Fiona Lyda. Made in Adelaide, Innate embraces essential pieces for the home, an armchair, credenza, console, coffee and side tables with further additions in the pipeline.
The first range in the collection – “Night” – will be showcased on the Spence and Lyda stand at DENFAIR 2018.
I AM BINY
DCW Editions Paris
In 1955, Jacques Biny opened Luminalite, his workshop for producing modern lighting.
Modern, before its time, the Designer- Manufacturer who was born in 1913 developed over 400 models during a 30-year career. Jacques Biny’s hallmark was rigour and he never stopped in his quest to improve how homes were lit. Functionality was primary, the lack of superfluity in the form reminiscent of the minimalist movement that was gaining currency in American art during the 1960’s, which may go to explain why his work is as popular with American collectors as it is with Europeans.
Efficiency and simplicity, restraint, elegance and modesty are the common denominators in Jacques Biny’s work. They are the same qualities that inspired us to reproduce Jacques Biny’s Box lights. I am Biny is a selection of Jacques designs reinterpreted under licence by DCW Editions. The capsule collection includes the Biny Table Lamp, Biny Spot, Biny Box or bedside and sconce options. All will be displayed on the Spence and Lyda stand during DENFAIR 2018.
Valerie Objects Lamps
Ceiling / Hanging / Standing Lamps
Muller Van Severen
With a mission to return aesthetic meaning to the tools and objects that we use every day, Antwerp-based Valerie_Objects is a design label set up by Axel van den Bossche and Veerle Wenes of Valerie Traan Gallery. Together they have formed a partnership that commissions designers to re-look at our most basic of implements from cutlery to lighting and basic seating. Their mission is to find a new way to reinterpret these pieces, to encourage a meaningful connection between the user and the designed object.
Designers like Mueller Van Severen , Maarten Baas and Koichi Futatsumata are a few of the designers bought in to this inspirational brand. We look forward to what they produce…
Mark Eden Schooley
Kute is an exquisite range of knitted steel pendant lights designed by Mark Eden Schooley. Handmade in Bali the organic forms are available in 9 shapes and three finishes, – stainless steel (silver), powder coated steel (black) and brass.
As such there are a myriad of design options from a small delicate single shade to an overlapping range of sizes, shapes and tones to create a large scale sculptural form. By day they form a floating, organic installation while at night they have the added dimension of light creating evocative and mesmeric shadows.
Rondo Sofa & Lounge Chair
A collaboration that celebrates the art of leather working, Rondo features a sofa and chair designed by Lucy Kurrein for Molinari Living. The design inspiration for Rondo was boxers punching bags. Looking at household leather objects that “radiate durability and craftsmanship”, Kurrein’s collection is made with top quality, thick leather that helps give the sense of the strength of a punching bag.
The simple legs press into that leather on the sides, showing just how soft the cushions are, inviting you to wrap your arms around it like a boxer would if it were a bag.
