Weaving the Here and Now

Spring, Hill End by Ali McNabney-Stevens

Spring, Hill End

Ali McNabney-Stevens

Oil On Linen
170cm x 150cm

What started off as studies of the Australian landscape, ‘Spring, Hill End’ is reflective of the harsh Australian climate. I emerged myself in the countryside, namely Hill End for a workshop with Luke Sciberras. This gave me so much inspiration to embrace a different colour palette and return to real expression through line.

The Heat of The Sun

Still Life

Oil + Acrylic on Canvas
120cm x 110cm

With the sun causing dark shadows, it pushes me to embrace an autumnal palette for this oil + acrylic on board piece. Focusing on the effects that sun and time make on the flora and fauna that surround me.

Woven

Woven 8 by Ali McNabney-Stevens

Woven 8

Print on Linen
173cm x 143cm

A print to add to my ‘woven’ series. Working with a brighter palette, I have experimented with printing and using linen as my surface. The finish for this floral print is phenomenal, with a huge amount of depth and texture.

Daisy by Ali McNabney-Stevens

Print on Linen
173cm x 143cm

A lighter, more airy painting that belongs within the ‘woven’ series. Creating bolder strokes with a lighter palette, playing the hard against the soft.

The Heat of The Sun

Ilona by Ali McNabney-Stevens

Ilona

Ali McNabney-Stevens

Oil + Acrylic on Canvas
180cm x 180cm

Seeking inspiration from the outdoors, I created ‘Ilona’ looking at the same imagery at different times of the day. A bright morning sun in summer on fresh dewy florals, then later in the day – focusing on the light that falls at different ends of the sun spectrum. What is fresh versus what is dry and burnt.
