Our awards provide the design community with the opportunity to continue to recognise original and considered design by celebrating todays best and brightest designers.
This year’s awards will be presented in house at the Melbourne Show. The awards are free to attend and all DENFAIR visitors are welcome to enjoy!

Meet the 2018 Judges
Emma is the Executive Director of Open House Melbourne, and like the organisation, she champions the city of Melbourne through its built environment. Open House is a public architecture organisation that empowers people to be active participants in the building of their city through a program of 50+ talks, tours, events, and the much loved Open House Weekend. Past projects include the Victorian Government State of Design Festival and the Queensland Government Unlimited: Design for the Asia Pacific Program. Emma is a regular media spokesperson, judge, and ambassador for architecture and the broader creative industries in Victoria, and she is currently augmenting her work with post-graduate studies in cultural heritage.
Ewan McEoin is the Senior Curator and head of the Department of Contemporary Design and Architecture at the National Gallery of Victoria. This department, the first of its kind in Australia, bringing contemporary design into the sphere of a major art institution explores, collects, and exhibits the most interesting trajectories of design today. Ewan has two decades of experience at the forefront of the Australian design industry working in design strategy, curating and publishing.
Ewan was long standing Editor of (inside) Australia Design Review; and Creative Director of the Victorian Government’s State of Design Festival in 2008 and 2009 and Unlimited, the Queensland Government backed Asia Pacific Design Triennial in 2010.
Claire is the current National President of the Design Institute of Australia (DIA). She is a Melbourne-based textile designer, design educator and Programs Manager of the Bachelor of Arts (Textile Design) and Bachelor of Textiles (Design) (Hons) degree programs in the School of Fashion and Textiles at RMIT University, Melbourne. In addition to being the current DIA National President, Claire is also a DIA Director and Chair of the DIA’s National Advisory Council. She collaborates with the team at the DIA to deliver trans-disciplinary events, programs and activities for design professionals with a focus on enabling them to enjoy their working lives, succeed in the business of design and advance the reputation of Australia as a Design Nation.
2018 Award Winners
Renowned for her artistic approach to interior design, and with over 20 years experience, Fiona Lynch leads an award winning multidisciplinary team that excels in achieving beautiful and genuine outcomes across retail, hospitality and residential projects. Inventive use of space, materials and custom detail are the creative hallmarks of the practice, which regularly attracts media coverage on a national and international level.
As one of the founding directors of Hecker Guthrie, Hamish Guthrie is often considered the taller and quieter of the pair. His calm demeanour lends itself to a considered approach to design which has resulted in a strong portfolio of much publicised and well awarded projects in the hospitality, retail, commercial and residential sectors.
Paul Hecker is the other founding Directors of Hecker Guthrie and his enthusiasm for design and how people interact with interior spaces has only strengthened over his 20 plus years in the industry. Within the studio, Paul is a sound voice and worthy commentator on not just design, but life, fashion, politics and film.
Rachel Luchetti has been a Director at Luchetti Krelle since its formation in 2007 and has contributed to multiple award winning hospitality, retail, residential and commercial projects. Rachel’s expertise in conceptual realisation, spatial planning and problem solving brings to each project a highly intricate and tailored approach that has come to define Luchetti Krelle.
