Intimate Familiar - Kew East Home

There’s something to be said about finding a certain piece that exudes timelessness. The brief was simple, restrained but effortlessly manifest elegance. It was the clean lines and austere aesthetic of Zuster’s Halo, Embellish and Gem collections that attracted Anne Mihelakos, to the quality that led her to choose a curated selection of pieces for a very personal brief; her family home.

The idea was to build on the pre-existing elegance already inhabited in the house, enhancing it further with Australian designed and made furniture. Anne specified simple luxury without the gaudiness some luxury accommodation can fabricate.

Welcoming and homely is the essence of the established home, the home features soft tones and restrained patterning furniture and walling reflected perfectly by the repetitious brass embellishment on Zuster’s customised dining table. Additionally, the circular pattern featured on sideboards, buffets, mirrors and lighting connects the spaces into one uniform look; a place for rest and replenishment. The overall appeal is softened by the volumes of delicate billowing curtains enveloping each window smoothing the harsh Australian sun.

The painstaking balance between dark tactile elements of featured timber and earthy leathers against the softness of tonal fabric choices exhibits an intimate knowledge of the space and its use. Anne has created a timeless space, one which creates a warm and engaging experience the essence of which is familiar without being prosaic.
